The Whiteboard Story
Late night computer games and programming assignments in the computer labs at Birmingham-Southern College was where the bonds of the first members of Whiteboard-IT were formed. It wasn’t until 4 years after graduation that the team that was first forged in the heat of a StarCraft battle reemerged as a business. This is our story.
Whiteboard-IT’s, founder Martin Murphy always had envisioned himself as an entrepreneur. The stories of Google, Yahoo, and Napster amongst others captivated him. During his college years of 1998-2002 he was excited as he saw the internet bubble reach epic proportions before bursting prior to the dean handing him a diploma. While in college, he took an internship with AmSouth Bank, now Regions. After college, he accepted a full-time position with Regions. AmSouth exposed Martin to Lotus Notes and ASP.Net which were very sought after skills in the commercial world.
After getting his first hosting contract Martin made the leap on his 25th birthday and started a freelance website development company named Whiteboarder. With a small but loyal customer base he worked out of his apartment too entranced in the tasks at hand to worry about the finer points of operating a business.
Reuniting with Nathan Stott and recruiting John Janecky (a long term friend of Martin’s and talented photographer and graphics designer) was a pivotal time which demanded a rebranding to Whiteboard-IT from the more singular Whiteboarder.
Six years later, Whiteboard-IT has created and designed hundreds of sites using a broad assortment of different technologies. Whiteboard-IT continues to seek new challenges and opportunities to help our customer’s thrive.
